Sarah Lewis is principal of Amistad Academy Elementary School. Ms. Lewis joined Achievement First in 2011 as a Learning Specialist, continued as Dean of Students, School Culture, and Academics before becoming principal. An experienced educator, she graduated with her Bachelors and Masters from Hampton University with degrees in English and Education. After college, Ms. Lewis taught kindergarten through sixth grade at a private parochial school, taught over-age students with Norfolk Public Schools, and continued with Broward County’s science magnet school, before taking on the mission of education reform with New York City’s high-performing charter schools including Achievement First. Within AF, Ms. Lewis co-created the common picture, coaches teachers and deans, and develops and leads professional development weekly. As a mentor, administrator, member of the National Alliance of Elementary School Principals, Association of Educating Young Children, and contributor on the board of directors for a non-profit outreach program, it is clear that education is Ms. Lewis’ life and mission.
