Keith Brooks has been opening gates since 2002 as a principal, assistant principal, dean, grade level chair and teacher. Since 2012, Mr. Brooks has been the founding principal of Achievement First Brownsville Middle School. Prior to that, he served as the dean of academic culture at Achievement First East New York Middle School from 2010-2012. Before coming to Achievement First, Mr. Brooks served the students of Miami Dade County for seven years; three years as an assistant principal and four years as a grade level chair/teacher. During that time, his students made significant gains. In 2006, 50% of Mr. Brooks’ students made two years’ worth of growth, and the number of students scoring significantly below grade level in the grade dropped from 61% to 28% in math.
Mr. Brooks has led his team to achieve similar success as a principal. In 2014, AF Brownsville Middle ranked in the top 10 schools in NYC for growth on the New York State Exam. In 2016, AF Brownsville Middle students’ achieved 20+ point gains in 5 out of 8 grades on the math and ELA exams. In addition to being an effective instructional leader, under Mr. Brooks’ leadership, AF Brownsville Middle consistently ranks in the top 5% of schools each year in both adult culture/org health and family investment. He is married and the father of three children, the oldest of whom currently attends AF Brownsville Middle. Mr. Brooks earned a B.A. in philosophy and religion at Colgate University and received a master’s degree in educational leadership at Nova Southeastern University.
