Lucy Volkmar is the principal of Achievement First East New York Elementary. Ms. Volkmar previously served as an academic dean and principal-in-residence. In 2015-16, she helped lead the school’s third graders achieve state test scores that were the highest in school history and among the highest in the AF Network. Ms. Volkmar also revamped the K/1 academic program and built the momentum that led scholars to consistently meet their reading goals. She first joined AF East New York Elementary in 2010 as a fourth grade teacher. Ms. Volkmar was a 2008 Teach For America corps member in New York City and graduated from Washington University in St. Louis. She holds a master’s degree in teaching from Pace University and a master’s degree as a literary specialist from Teachers College at Columbia University.
