Kevin Lohela is the founding principal of Achievement First Iluminar Mayoral Academy. To prepare for this role, he participated in a rigorous leadership training through Achievement First’s Principal-in-Residence program at Achievement First Endeavor Elementary in Brooklyn. Prior to his work at Achievement First Endeavor, he served for five years as the academic dean of Achievement First Crown Heights Elementary School in Brooklyn. He began his teaching career in the Bronx teaching third and fourth grades at P.S. 196. He earned his B.A. in philosophy at Wesleyan University. Mr. Lohela is thrilled to work closely with Rhode Island families and communities to help all children develop positive growth-mindsets, exceptional character, and excellent academic and critical thinking skills that will enable them to be successful in college and in life.
